Lessons

Maybe we all are anxious
About tomorrow
Even while we’re standing
In today
I believe there is
Something
In creating
In pouring yourself out
Into something
Something simple
Like painting a bookshelf
Or writing this note to you
It’s freeing

My mom likes gardening
My uncle likes flowers
He used to walk with me
And explain all the different
Kinds

When we visited
That’s where I could find him
Out back
Walking in his gardens

Some of us can’t sleep
It’s not a bad thing
You understand
The sun
Still kisses the earth
Every morning
No matter the wreckage
And she blooms
Have you ever watched that?
I get to see it,because I don’t sleep
I love it
I used to sit on a fence post
And just wait for it
loyal
consistent
Yet silent
Almost a secret love affair
Yet everything is warmed by it

My hands shake
With nervous energy
My words often
Fall short
Or break …
But
I promise
Every morning
I will be here
In every storm
You will have
My arms
I’m here
Yes
Nervous
Awkward
With tired eyes
But together
Silent
But with laughter
These are the things
learned
From
My mom
My uncle
Their
flowers
And the sun
