Triggers

We asked the wizard for equality

We asked the wizard for power

Uniqueness to stand out

From the midst of the crowd

Now

The sea is turning red

The blood from the souls of this shipwreck

We wear it

In the jewels

That weigh our hands down
Cast a light in the darkness

Of our equality

All of our modesty

We passed the court yard

We stood at the crucifix – his body

With the blood on the alter

“Cast your head Oh saviour

To kiss our hand”–

Jewels mined from the backs of slavery–Look down.
And the Holy Spirit convicted

And God Judged

And we stood there

With dead eyes

Looking at Truth

And we said …

“triggers”
And in the end

There in the throne room

“Lord Lord we were good.”

And he said with calm intensity

“But I never knew you.”
