Country (those who came before us)

Feel the weight
The steps
In the carpet,
The music in the rafters
The tears and the laughter
Brings you to your knees,
It’s the churches and the southern gospel,

Those who came before us
Working those old circuits
Hear
The pain in their voices
The simple songs they played
See
The fear in their eyes
Every song writer that came before us
Every southern voice

Tired of my ways
Tired of these days,
All my sin and my vices
Whatever I had to prove I’ve done forgotten

Feel the bass
The music in the carpet
This sound of salvation
You could almost reach out and touch it
The hunger and the knowing
That we can’t come back here anymore…

And it’s a long long road
And it’s a long short time
When it’s passing through your mind
Living through your life
Coming down to your choices

All my sins and my vices
I’ve already forgotten what I had to prove…

Hear
The pain in their voices
The simple songs they played
See
The fear in their eyes
Every song writer that came before us
Every southern voice ….
