We were sleepwalking

Passing each other

Like two ghosts haunting the same

House

New bedclothes

New furnishings

Plates

But no appetite

No desire

——

2020 on the forecast

Nothing we planned came to pass

We are frightened

By nothing

Flattened by morning

——

What is appetite?

Craving

Look me in the eye

Your skin

Your sin

Look me in the eyes

You’ll see my poetry

Waiting all night

To see you

It’s not masked by this year

It’s brought back

To the base value

The foundation

Remove the complexities

The trivial

——

Appetites

Cravings

Passions

Your skin

Your lips

We don’t have to move

Through time

Waiting

For right moments

Perfect places

They don’t exist

Our bodies moving together

There are still some things

We can say

Without speaking

There’s all these voices

I look around the room

I close my eyes

Some raise a glass

Expect me to just hate women

My phone blows up

“Look at this.”

“Go to therapy.”

“Take 4 years.”

Everyone has an opinion

I watch the room

I spent all those years

Doing what I thought was best

Buying flowers

Writing letters

Making dinner

Dances in the kitchen

I still didn’t do everything right, I guess

It’s not one persons fault

I won’t complain

I’m not going to cry in my beer

I’ve seen that

Too too many times

I watch the room

I feel nothing

I feel nothing at all

That’s the worst part

I don’t hurt

I’m not angry

I cannot possibly drink enough

And I feel nothing at all

“You know what you should do? You should go sniff and hit everything you can.”

But I feel nothing at all…

Only the blues

There’s an isolation inside

And I know

There’s going to be a morning

When the sun will rise

And I will only write

About that deep blue

That is her eyes

Just give it time

Even the sea is calm

At the darkest of the night

And I try to think

But the words can’t be found

And I try to drink

But there’s never enough

So I watch the room

And accept this too

This feeling – Nothing

Hoping I don’t become some kind of

Bitter southerner

That’s all

I don’t want to be hung up

I don’t want to be bitter

They expect me to just hate

But have you ever

Talked for hours with a woman

Danced without hesitation

Read until the morning

With her hand in your hand

And her head on your chest

There’s a thousand other intimacies

She gives you before you’re in her bed

I know this will pass

This feeling nothing

Things that don’t suck 2

Things that don’t suck

Realising

You can still make amazing dinners

But for yourself,

Champagne, The Rat Pack, steak…

Not having the dinner thrown in the trash…

Not having someone get up and just leave or go to bed after you make it

Ties, tie clips, waistcoats, fedoras, hardsole shoes…

New jeans…

A cigar dipped in bourbon

Hennessy

A classic sidecar recipe

Jazz

Asus chord

Guitar

Cheesecake

Buying yourself flowers every month instead of someone else

Writing letters

Thunderstorms

Pasta (always pasta)

Setting goals

Crushing goals

Walking your dog

Accepting that you were a good husband

And forgiving yourself for what you did in survival mode…

Watching the sunrise

Morning by morning

The world was flawed

The work was flawed

Impractical

Opened

The flesh, bruised

We,

We were animals

Fighting ourselves

All of this life

All of this energy

All of this

Here and now

Blown in a moment

By the wind

Gone tomorrow

What was all of that hurry?

What was all of that anxiety ?

—-

Slow it down

I put the

Words on paper

My feelings

On fire

Scorch the edges

Framed by the shadow of your body

In the morning

—-

Morning by Morning

All of this passion

Slow it down

Thicker

Hotter

Slow it down

This energy

This

Heartbeat

This flame

One body

Flesh bruised

Lips on fire

The Morning runs away …

The sky is white

But you can taste the darkness inside

This hollow

This void

These eyes have been empty for sometime ——

These weapons

These sharp objects

Too too many

That we hide behind —-

Let this go

This hurt

Let this go

This pain

Let this go

Gently ——

Like the leaves

With their colours

The trees

Lose their leaves

The ocean with it’s tide

It always comes back in

The sunrise

Gives way for the

sunset

The moon

For the sunrise

We have to let go of things gently ——

We are meant to walk together

To love

But go boldly

Go strongly

And let go

Of things gently

So they can come back to you

Supernova

Not really talked a lot

Since you’ve been gone

But you’ve been gone

And you were there

You were there

—-

All of those jazz dances

In the kitchen

Like we were the hit parade

We’d finally made it

The captain of the ship

In outer space

But what is space

Just another slice out of the pie

In this lonely day

Whatever is left after the parade

—–

Now who’s going to sing you

every song

Because every song

Is secretly your favorite song

And tell how special

You are

Because you’re special

You’re a supernova

—-

So I hope someone tells you

All the secrets

And

All the things you want to hear

Like, I hope we stay young

—–

Running through Saturday traffic,

You were there,

now

Like a supernova,

all I’m left with is this black hole

Where you’ve gone away

Away

Away

Not really talked a lot

Since you’ve been gone

But you’ve been gone

And you were there

You were there

Sunday Morning

1

I had a hellhound on my trail

I didn’t see any light ahead

And I think

We all have different angels and we all have different demons inside of us

And I believe we have different soulmates …

2

Lady,

Lady,

I want you to know

You’ve been a saving grace,

Whatever we are

Our blood boils at the same temperature

And whatever we become

I think my eyes will always find you across the room

And I will remember

The hellhound on my trail –

And I hope you know –

You saved my soul

And all that I’ve become –

And sometimes

I believe

Every Sunday

You’re the warmest thing

In this room

30 for 30 (emotion)

Voices

Fading

How soon I forget

The world I’m in

She walks in

Everything turns

To smoke and shadows

She has everything I could ever want

And then some

She is

Fire and rain

My eyes have always followed her across the room

You should see the way she moves

I knew when she walked in

I would miss her

This house just isn’t the same

I reach out

But she’s long long gone

Now the moon plays the blues

I watch the sky run

Like a formula one engine

Soon it’s going to storm

And she’s just like that kind of energy

Building up in the sun

She’s everything I would ever need

The only thing I believe

All it takes is a touch

And the sky rains

Desire

Famous Last Words

There are some things we just won’t talk about,

It’s all in the last words

Of famous men

that’s what she would say

We are in the same room

But thousands of miles away

And what do we know

And how am I to know

The things you will never show

You’re always going away…

The papers say we won the war

But I feel as though

I lost her heart today

And all at once

I felt hollowed out

Just a lost soul

But I kept this mind

The things we’ll never know

The things you’ll never show

Can I blame you?

The blood stains the earth

The skies turn to overcast

And it’s all to shame

But one touch from her

Would end the pain

One word from her would

Send the rains

How could know?

I can’t read your mind?

We are worlds apart

I never thought I’d pack these bags

I never thought I’d be on this train

I never saw

The forecast for all the skies

There are some things

We just won’t talk about

And we spend our years

Thinking we are doing

Fine and we forget

We forget

How easy it is

To leave words unsaid

Worlds behind

with only our hearts

And

All our love

on the line

Woman

Woman of the earth

She comes out in the full moonlight

inside of the quiet

Her feelings like fingers dip into a little bit

Of everything

She runs they say

with the wild things

Ten thousand miles

Under the eye of the giants

She’s dived into the mouth of the volcano

Woman of the earth

See her under the weight of

Their poetry

Their weather

Their religion

Tangled up in star signs

Her roots spread deep

What have we done for her lately?

Everything we give her

Comes with a receipt

We’ve got her

Tangled up

Tangled up

In a card

In a headline

On a stage

In a bit

Overreacting

Like strings on a puppet

Where is she now?

I keep looking

She’s a woman

She’s a woman

You can’t label,categorize,

She’s a woman

I loved a woman

Love a woman

She’s a woman

And she’s damned if she doesn’t

She’s damned if she does

Woman of the earth

She runs

With the wild things

She rises with the moon

But what…

What have we done for you lately?
